This is a venture that involves bridging the gap between academic research and real-world entrepreneurship. Since the goal is to create a culture of innovation and commercialization within the academic community, the expected result leads to wider economic and social benefits.

The institute fully understands the environment and the degree of the industry’s need for innovation, and the incubator will have stable foundations for further growth and development. Although the Institute has knowledge and experience in encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit, strengthening innovation and technology transfer, a strategic approach is necessary to create the foundation of the incubator.

Our goal is to gather the academic community throughout Serbia, in order to promote business opportunities in the form of startups ready for the global market. We also want to connect students from universities across Serbia in order to form multidisciplinary teams for the future establishment of startups that will focus on solving problems in the field of “AgTech”. Through the incubation period of these teams, we begin the process of transforming mentality on both sides: university professors, researchers employed by NIO and students as users, and the international startup ecosystem that is looking for teams with innovative ideas and an entrepreneurial mentality. Through the incubation program, called “BIOS In-cube”, they will collaborate with experienced experts from the startup community from the region of Serbia, and at the end, 12 teams will present their ideas at the final conference in 2024 in Serbia. It will be the way for future activities to involve more stakeholders and steer the university community towards a more creative environment.

The mission of the BIOS In-Cube program is to provide support in bridging the gap between research within the academic sector and entrepreneurship. The goal is to develop a culture of innovation and commercialization of scientific results in the direction of realizing wider economic and social benefits, with a focus on the application of advanced solutions in agriculture, food production, ecology and biosystems in general.

The activities of the BIOS In-Cube incubator in 2024 will be aimed at increasing the capacity of innovative startup teams from NIO to conceive, launch and obtain financing for innovative ideas and solutions. These activities will be realized through:
– A training series with 7 modules (you can view the presentation of the program here)

• Hands-on work on the preparation of an application for financing the commercialization of research on a selected call
• Mentoring support in the field of innovation development business activities
• The possibility of using the resources of the BioSens Institute (laboratories, data)
• Training for the presentation of business ideas to investors (pitch)

In the first series of activities, the right to participate will be achieved by 10 teams with the best evaluated innovative ideas. The call for applications from teams from the academic community, including researchers, teaching staff and students, is open until April 9, 2024. The text of the call can be viewed here.
